The gospel of John is different to the gospels of Matthew Mark and Luke. They all relate the life, mission, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and there is a complete harmony in the details they provide. John, however, presents a different view of the same events. Jesus is described by John as the word of God and looking at the events in this light gives a whole range of insights which the other gospels do not provide. The purpose of the seminar is stimulate those insights.
John was a companion of The Lord Jesus Christ for more than three years and then for more than half a century he had a close spiritual relationship with Jesus. During this time he had a long experience of putting into practice the teachings of Jesus and he wanted to share understanding of these teachings. He clearly felt a need to explain the meaning behind what Jesus said. He wrote his gospel "so that you believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that by believing you might have life in His name." His motive was to encourage that uncountable number of Christians of his day and beyond to follow in Jesus' footsteps. He also wanted to encourage those who had not yet made a commitment to Jesus.
John's gospel is an opportunity to see the Lord Jesus Christ through the eyes of a disciple whom Jesus loved.
